I got home a bit early and started to pack for the jurassic. Andrew arrived about 6.30 pm and we went round to Adam's but he had gone to mine so we went back and picked him up then drove through london to catch the M3. It was quite a long drive and we got to the house the tides no 32 the high st portland about 11pm. Ree, Sandy and Marie were already there. We had a beer from the fridge and settled down for a while and made plans. I had the room to myself at the top of the house a very nice double room.
Up early and the team was feeling good, I retrieved the car from the extreme angle I had parked it at the night before and I drove the runners to the start. We registered got our dibbers and had our kit checked. We then settled down and had some of the free betty stogs beer and coffee and cake. After our briefing we all popped into a minibus and set off for the start I played some theme tunes such as the a team music to keep us amused and we chatted to some competitors doing it for the first time. We finally got to the start which was just past the house we stayed at with 8thday. There were no toilets unfortunately so lots of folks popped into the bushes. Then we were off and heading towards Golden Cap. Myself and Ree had both bought new waterproof jackets and we got to use them a couple of times on the run but only for a couple of minutes each time. The course had really dried out after all the recent rain and there was only mud in a few places and nothing too bad. We didn't get our feet wet. we saw some.characters like mr knee who was videoing the whole.race. I chose to run up all the hills that day to see if I could still do it and it wasn't a problem. Towards the end of the day I played the rocky theme to get us into base camp. The others then had some of the free beer then we drove back to the house and ordered a mountain of chinese food. We tucked into that and watched the tv including ice road truckers and the double rainbows video on YouTube. We went to bed pretty quickly that night.
The leg felt fine and we drove pretty early to the start point registered again and had our picture taken to post on Facebook. We also had some beer to start. Off we set around portland and we did the whole route properly this time which put in and extra climb. We saw marie and Kyrstie on the trail as well. We got back to hq at portland and had some more bee4 before setting off. Adam was starting to run out of energy at this point and I stayed with him. I wasn't running up the hills today. We pushed on and Adam regained his energy but on the downhill to the rollercoaster something gave out behind his knee and he started to struggle on the hills. I had my phone out by this point and was playing tunes to keep us going. The others got a bit ahead of us but we could see them in the distance. We caught mr knee in time for the finish line at Lulworth cove and we were only 5 minutes behind. Me and ree went back in the front seat of the minibus and met the others back at the house, as marie and Kyrstie had come by car. In the evening we watched a bit of pervirella until the pizza was ready then some of priest the movie. Before hitting the sack.
Another early start. Even earlier for Adam who had booked a taxi and started in the walking group. We registered and had our beer and then there was a long bus ride to the start. we started straight up the hill rather than around it and there were quite a few detours that day due to the cliff falling away. It took out the never ending steps which was a shame. We were getting a regular text from adam when he got to a checkpoint. So we knew he was still moving the group was a little quieter today but we kept moving forward. At the start we were dogged by the grim reaper who goes around at the back and sweeps up the signs. We carried on and were a bit disappointed to find out that we missed out the never ending steps. The extra bits of navigation made it interesting ducking under trees and stuff. We ploughed along nicely and with just a half mile to the final beach we came upon Adam and I played the A-Team theme as we were reunited. We ran along the final beach with Mr Knee and off course had rocky playing as we all crossed the line together. we didn't have much time to celebrate before the long bus ride back and then the longer drive punctuated by a food break where we saw some other Jurassic coast folks.
