The alarm went at 5.30 am and I got in the car and drove to Marie's. It was quite quick at that time of day. I got to sandy's just before 7am and we all got in Marie's car with Abby and drove to Falmer village. We got there just as it started raining. Luckily we didn't have to queue to long in the rain as there were not too many people registered for the Longman. We actually managed to start off dry. But then we were hit by stinging hailstones for a while. The route was familiar being on the south downs way and it included some long uphill bits I was fine on them but eventually Sandy started to struggle at about 16 miles. The mud was a factor and we both slipped over once. I was getting concerned as I had not got any food with me. But eventually a water station and then a food station appeared that had mini doughnuts and jaffa cakes and fig rolls so I was happy. We then did one of many routes and arrived back at the same station. In the last mile we were challenged by a runner who had gone the wrong way but Sandy found the strength to sprint to the line. We then got changed and grabbed a coffee before heading back. The race was 28.8 miles long and took 6 and a half hours so way to slow really. When we got back to Marie's I gave Abby a lift to the station and then went home and ate fruit.
