16/01/2015 Friday

I went straight from work to Baker st, hacking a few portals along the way. I got to the Allsop arms at just before 6pm and Adam arrived shortly after. When Sandy arrived we had something to eat. I just had chips and a very long chocolate brownie. The others copied my dessert choice. We then met Andrew at Marylebone and we caught a quite full train to aylesbury. After popping in the morrisons for some last minute supplies we caught a taxi to the holiday in. Myself and Adam did a bit of prep in our room and then met the others in the bar for a few drinks. andrew also had a rather small pizza.

17/01/2015 Saturday

The alarm went off at 6.40 am and we quickly packed and got a taxi to the station though not the one we had booked for 7am. We were still nice and early though and got ourselves a seat and registered quickly and ate the bacon rolls and had coffee whilst those arriving on the train queued to get into the pub. The race didn't set off quite at 8.30am so i took an opportunity for a last minute toilet break and so started right at the back. It didn't take too long to catch up with the others and we were then delayed a bit as there were a number of gates and styles for the first few miles were queues developed. The weather forecast said it felt like -5 so i had 3 layers on and a waterproof jacket around my waist. I soon needed to put it on as quite a lot of snow fell making for an interesting race. We were however glad that most of the mud was frozen so it made our race a bit quicker. we maintained a pretty consistent pace throughout the race running 0.9 mile then walking 0.1 miles. The checkpoints had some wonderfully moist cake but at the 2nd one i was the only one to get some as they had run out. But after that as people slowed down and pulled out we were well in the cake zone. We made it to the canal with only one slip on Adam's part, but we managed to miss Ree even with the help of google maps. She caught us up along the regents canal branch after the swans. We were certainly a bit speedier this year. We did not need to don our head torches at all as we were finished in 8hrs 36 mins. We had help from my rocky playlist on the final couple of miles. we were greeted at the finish line by Susan, and Marie and after getting our medals and a coffee we had d to a pizza restaurant. But found the Union bar instead. Here we tucked into food. Ordered a temple of doom burger which i couldn't finish. We had a few beers then I bought some Kamikaze shooters for the team and a baileys for Ree. We were all looking pretty healthy as we continued drinking and we moved onto the beer house in Paddington station where we stayed till closing time.
