Didn’t really sleep before getting out of bed at 2.30am. I too a nice bus to aldgate and walked through to Liverpool St. Bought a ticket then derailment Kent no trains but I was able to pop round the corner and catch a very smelly bus to Stanstead. I met Pash ok for once not having a beer, the easyjet flight was quick. I couldn’t really sleep the seats were too tight. We picked up the car ok and Pash's surfer dude navigated while I did the music it was about 2 hours to John's. In the evening we walked down to Polientes and had a couple of beers in the bar to celebrate the successful settings up of the telescope. When we got back we looked at the moon and had an excellent BBQ.
Up about 10 some nice coffee then a 4 mile run while the others planned. When I got back we went to the lake. There was not much beach as the water was very high. Me John and Pash braved the cold water and I eventually went in twice and swam about among the trees. We then had a couple of beers and an ice cream in el chili before buying some biscuits at the biscuit shop on the way home. In the evening we had a lovely paella and played some darts into the early hours on the new dart board.
Went for a 5 mile run through long grass in about 29 degrees, a bit hard. We then set off to the Oyambre beach near Santander. My legs were a bit red so I didn’t go in the water and I went with John to Santander to pick up Kirsten. We went back to the beach for a while then went to Santillana del Mar and we ate in the Sidreria which was a cider brewery and we had a device that pumped air into your cider from a height. We got back quite late and just had a couple of beers.
Up early for the trip to the vineyard. It was a super hot day but we got the the Bodega Bohdal just after 12.30pm and we looked at their art exhibition for a while as we waited for Ben and Chris to arrive. We then had a look around the vats and the barrels then had the tastings. As usual I couldn’t really appreciate the wines. The others bought quite a few though we drove for a bit and lunch outside the Casa Antonia was in order we all got eggs chips and bacon which was a bit of a surprise to those ordering. We then went on to Jesus's vineyard, but he wasn’t there but we bought some wine anyway. We stopped at Carrefour on the way back and got good and a selection of beers. By the time we drove back over the escarpment by the observatory it was quite late but me and pash got the BBQ for John to work his magic. Attempts to view the planets were not successful due to the moon but I had a go anyway
Up early at 9 and snapped all the wood with help from Ben. Cycled to the river and found the bar was open. Cycled back and found the others leaving for the river. I cycled after them. Myself and John then inflated the canoe then we drove back a couple of bridges with Verena and launched. It was a little tricky.and I didn’t feel too stable at first. We had to portage over a couple of rapids but made it down safely to meet the others in about an hour. I then cycled back to the house, hard work in 35 degrees. In the evening I got a lift in Ben and Chris's smart car to the town to go to the restaurant el baron to get ourselves some steak cooked on stones. It was very good and we got extras from the kitchen and dessert was served en familia p Ike the rest of the food. We headed back and myself and Ben were last to bed at about 4am.
Got up before 10am. And myself, Kirsten and Pash set off for the coast, unfortunately it was warm but cloudy and crispy so not beach weather. We carried on to Bilbao and after stopping at a bar for some food , we went to the gifts being. There were some interesting pieces including some works by Andy Warhol. It the building itself was the most memorable me. We walked by the river then and had an ice cream before doing Kirsten at her hotel. Myself and pash got to the airport early but the flight was delayed an hour and a half. Got the 11.59 stansted express.
